Cathy Gunter

Cathy is the Media Consultant/TDHH with Outreach. During her career, which began in 1979, Cathy has worked in School for the Deaf in three provinces- Saskatchewan, Manitoba and B.C. She feels fortunate to have been involved in many pioneering adventures as part of her duties as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. In the 1980's, Cathy was given the assignment of teaching Computer Applications. At that time, computers were just beginning to find a place in the classroom and so Cathy had the opportunity to design a unique program for her students. Her passion for technology lead to back to university studies to receive a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Oregon in 1989.

In the 1990's, when the World Wide Web was developed, Cathy was fortunate to be part of a team teaching assignment where the entire curriculum revolved around the Internet. The endless possibilities of using this medium in the classroom  became clearly evident.

During the early 2000's, the direction of technology changed and expanded once again. Cathy feels fortunate to be involved in offering instruction through Distributed (online) Learning. To accomplish this goal, such tools as Videoconferencing with D-Links, the Polycom and iMacs are being used. Additionally, distributing curriculum via iPods to as many Deaf and hard of hearing children as possible allows to broaden their education.

Cathy holds three degrees, her first being Kinesiology (B.Sci. P.E), B.Ed and finally M.Ed.
