OPTIMIST COMMUNICATION CONTEST
FOR THE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING
For the first time in my life I had participated in a course of action that was meant to single kids like me out. The course of action was entering in the Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. I worked hard on my speech about growing up in today's world and I overcame all obstacles in my way and I won first place in that contest. Never a happier moment had I known. Not only had I won, but being at that contest was my first time ever meeting other hearing impaired kids like me. My true peers..... Winning that contest gave me the self confidence I had been lacking my whole life. I wasn't a freak, I was a winner!”
